About Ortonville, Minnesota

Founded in 1872 by Cornelius Knute Orton, Ortonville is located in Big Stone County on the southern end of Big Stone Lake, right on the border of South Dakota. U.S. Highways 12 and 75 and Minnesota State Highway 7 are the main thoroughfares into town. Big Stone Lake is known for crappie,perch, and bullhead. Gamefish – such as walleye, northern pike, and bass – can only be caught during certain times of year. See the DNR website for details on local fishing.

About Hilltop

Located off Highway 12, surrounded by quietly swaying cornfields, Hilltop is designated to cabins and RVs at the front of the property and private homes sit further back. A Casey’s gas station and Dollar General are within walking distance for any necessities guests may need, and the park is less than two miles from downtown Ortonville, the boat landing, and the South Dakota border. A little further down, you can find several bars, diners, a coffee shop and fast food options.

Amy has owned Hilltop for more than 10 years and has improved the property significantly since the purchase. She has been eager to put in cabins for those who come to fish and vacation in the quiet town of Ortonville. She welcomes all those who are looking for cozy accomodation in the Ortonville area.
